One of the primary missions of the INB since its foundation has been to support the national scientific community working on genome-related projects, as well as fostering the participation of Spanish groups in international projects.
Modern life science research often requires computing and/or storage resources that go beyond the processing power of a single computer. But porting traditional algorithms to such environments is not trivial. To enable bioinformatics research groups in the use of supercomputing resources the INB provides support in preparing applications to use the MareNostrum supercomputer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and assists in the use of this infrastructure.
